PLANTAR FASCIOTOMY
Plantar fasciitis resolves 90-95 % of the time with conservative measures. Examples of conservative care include stretching, NSAIDs, hot/cold therapy, therapeutic modalities, orthotics and proper footwear. When plantar fasciitis does not resolve with conservative care, Chiropodists at the Royal City Foot Clinic are well-trained to perform a surgical procedure known as a plantar fasciotomy to provide pain relief and improve quality of life.
When surgery is indicated, the Chiropodist will use local anesthetic to numb the surgical site and 1.5 to 2.5 cm incision is made on the plantar aspect of the foot. The plantar fascia is transected and released and the surgical site is closed with sutures. The patient is advised to return to clinic in 2 to 3 weeks after the procedure to remove sutures and ensure proper healing.
If you have been suffering with intractable plantar fasciitis and have exhausted all options a plantar fasciotomy is a service we can provide for you.
