TENDON RELEASE | TENOTOMY
A tendon release (tenotomy) is a surgical procedure in which a tendon is cut. A tenotomy may be used for digital deformities (toe deformities) such as claw toes, or to provide more room for expanding tissue. Often the flexor or extensor tendons are released in the foot. The procedure is usually minimally invasive and can be done on site at the Royal City Foot Clinic. Recovery time tends to be fast, sometimes sutures are not needed due to the minimal amount of tissue damage. Local anaesthetic is used and a post operative shoe is needed for proper healing. The post operative shoe is usually worn for 1-2 weeks after the procedure and this is something we here at the clinic. After the surgery, it is important to consider proper footwear and orthotics to prevent the reoccurrence of the pathology.
